This is a tried and true, mom tested, kid approved craft that never gets old. I remember making glitter bottles or calm down jars, as we call them around here, with my grandmother. For this glitter jar, we’ll be crafting up a snowflake jar with confetti snowflakes. We are Arizonians and this might just be the only snow my children see this winter. The jar only requires a handful of ingredients, including Johnson’s® Baby Oil, to create the fun snowfall effect. We used a glass mason jar for this craft, but you can use a plastic bottle for younger children. Also, feel free to try different food coloring, glitter and confetti. You could also try adding in beads, pom poms or tiny rubber bands. Your child will have a blast creating their own unique glitter bottle. Happy crafting!
SUPPLIES
mason jar (pint size)
Johnson’s® Baby Oil
water
glitter
confetti snowflakes
blue food coloring
glitter canvas paper
scissors
super glue
INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1: Head to Walmart and pick up your ingredients. I found the bottle of Johnson’s® Baby Oil in the beauty section and I’ve also seen it in the baby aisle.
Step 2: Fill a pint size mason jar 1/2 full with water. Add 5 drops of blue food coloring and mix.
Step 3: Fill the rest of the jar with Johnson’s® Baby Oil.
Step 4: Add 2 tablespoons of glitter and 1 tablespoon of confetti snowflakes to the jar (or as much sparkle as you desire).
Step 5: Trace the jar lid on a piece of glitter canvas paper and cut along the trace lines. Add the glitter circle to the top of the lid.
Step 6: Seal the lid shut with superglue. Allow to dry.
Step 7: Mix and enjoy watching the snow fall! Watch the oil and water separate, repeat.
